FAQ

General

At Studio Black, we're all about crafting high-quality coffee while staying connected to our creative roots in Manchester. We focus on ethically sourcing our beans and supporting local artists and freelancers. Good coffee, great stories—that's what we're here for.

We work with local artists, designers, and creatives, blending coffee with art. By sharing a portion of our profits with good causes across the film and TV industry, we directly support freelancers in the creative sector, helping to sustain the vibrant arts community we’re a part of.

Coffee & Brewing

To keep your coffee fresh, store your beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture. Avoid storing coffee in the fridge or freezer as this can cause condensation, which impacts flavour. A simple cupboard or pantry works best, ensuring the beans are protected from air and light.

For most brewing methods:

  • Espresso: Fine grind.
  • Pour-over/Aeropress: Medium grind.
  • French press: Coarse grind.

Always adjust your grind size based on how the coffee tastes—too sour means the grind is too coarse, and too bitter means it’s too fine.

We roast our coffee weekly in small batches to ensure maximum freshness. Once roasted, we ship orders as quickly as possible—usually within 24 hours—so that you receive your coffee at its peak. We recommend enjoying it within 3 months of the roast date for the best flavour, but you'll notice the difference in freshness right from the first cup.

For consistently great results, we recommend investing in a quality burr grinder (such as a Baratza or Wilfa), a digital scale, and tools like the Hario V60 or AeroPress for manual brewing. These offer flexibility and control to really dial in your brew.

Subscriptions

Our coffee subscriptions are designed to be flexible. You can choose between weekly, fortnightly, or monthly deliveries, and you’ll always receive freshly roasted beans. You can manage your subscription through your account—pause, change frequency, or cancel anytime.
