High above Lake Tanganyika, the slopes of Mutambu Hill in Burundi produce some of the country’s most vibrant coffees. Grown at 1,800 metres and processed using sealed-tank anaerobic fermentation to enhance body and complexity, this lot is rich, sweet, and beautifully layered. Expect the boozy brightness of strawberry liqueur, a syrupy salted caramel body, and a soft, marshmallow finish.

Best enjoyed as filter, where its clarity and sweetness shine.

Mutambu Hill, Burundi

High above the shores of Lake Tanganyika, Mutambu Hill is known for producing some of Burundi’s most vibrant and characterful coffees. Sitting at 1,800 metres, this high-altitude region benefits from cool mountain air and rich soil, helping to slow the coffee’s maturation and build up natural sweetness. The cherries in this lot have undergone anaerobic fermentation – a technique that brings out deeper complexity and an indulgent, boozy sweetness in the cup.

Migoti Coffee is a local operation with global ambition, founded by two engineers with a passion for rebuilding Burundi’s coffee economy after years of civil unrest. Working with over 1,200 smallholder farmers, Migoti combines expert processing with community-focused initiatives – from micro-loans to essential oil crops – to help stabilise farmer incomes year-round. With a reputation for transparency, quality, and innovation, their coffees consistently score among the highest in the region.
